Dubai “smart palm” - Yingchuang 3D printing FRP new project

In order to welcome the coming of 2020 World Expo, a local Dubai design company, D Idea Media made a “ smart palm” plan, aiming to improving the application of green energy in Dubai. This measures include smart city plan, green economic proposal.

Smart palm is 20 foot high, made of concrete and 3D printing

Until now, the company has “ planted” two smart palm tree, one is on surf beach, another is near the shore park. The company planed to “ plant” this smart palm in 103 places near Dubai. These smart palm is 20 foot high, made of concrete and 3D printing, whose fiber reinforced plastic can effectively fight sun damage and control humidity. The leaf area covers an area of 18 square meters. The "tree trunk" has a touch screen that uses a common APP to check local travel, weather and travel information. The smart palm tree also has a 360-degree surveillance camera, which lights up at night and can be used as a monitoring and street lamp.

In fact, the design of "smart palm tree" is not very high-tech, just focusing on solar panels, Wi-Fi hot spots, charging ports, street lights and rest areas. But it is not only the function of piling up, but in the design concept comprehensive consideration of the urban landscape and sustainable development needs.

The novelty of these palm trees is that it's not just for cool rest, but it can also be connected to a WiFi phone for charging. Given the hot weather in the Middle East, these palms have been designed to protect against uv and humidity protection. The solar panels on the leaves can absorb the sun's energy and generate 7.2 kilowatts of electricity a day. Citizens can use the technology to find city information for free, or even connect to wi-fi to charge their phones and tablets and surf the Internet. The charging speed is 2.5 times faster than the average charger. In addition, the tree integrated camera can also help visitors to take selfies.

For Dubai, the smart palm trees that glow with the galleons have special cultural significance. The palm trees resonate with the locals and pass out the cultural identity of the desert state. But given the cost of construction, they have opted for 3D printing to reduce production costs.
